Horace J. Johnson Jr. and Ronald J. Freeman, Sr. founded Johnson & Freeman,
LLC in 1994 with a mandate to provide legal service to the business and government sectors. The firm maintained offices in Midtown Atlanta and Covington. In 2002, Founder Horace J. Johnson, Jr. was tapped to become the first African American Judge to sit on
the Newton County Superior Court.

Judge Johnson served on the Newton County Superior Court bench for 17 years
and continued to give counsel and leadership oversight to the firm and its attorney’s, pushing its mission forward to serve clients by exceeding expectations, delivering excellent service, and exercising Christian principles.

Since his passing on July 1, 2020, Newton County’s Board of Commissioners
voted unanimously to rename the Newton County Judicial Center the Horace J. Johnson, Jr. Judicial Center to ensure the perpetuity of Johnson’s legacy not only in upholding its original mission set almost three decades ago but by continuing to extend its contributions
to the community and organizations Johnson affiliated with over the years.
